Magazine Monday

This weeks magazine pic is the April 2012 edition of Vogue. While I am not a huge fan of Jennifer Lopez, this is Vogue’s annual shape issue. The articles usually center more around our health and our bodies, than fashion. This month there is a particularly interesting article about a mother who put her 6 year old daughter on a diet. Let me just say, it’s an interesting read. Once you get the magazine and read the article, hop on over to one of my favorite blogs, The Cut and check out what THEY had to say about it. Enjoy!

As you can see, spring has sprung! Or, at least mother nature is giving us a real treat this month. I just switched my closet over to my spring/summer pieces (and I’m sure we will now get the blizzard of the century) and one my favorite things to do right now is wear some of my summer dresses as tops. Tunic-type top and dresses have been huge on the runways the past few seasons and I love wearing this look! What are you planning for your spring wardrobe?

A New White Shirt

As you are thinking about what to add to your shopping list this spring, a new white blouse may be just the thing to make your wardrobe feel fresh and new again. If this is a piece you are considering, I would highly recommend you check out Elizabeth Daniel.

Elizabeth Daniels Tuxedo Shirt

I would call it a hybrid mix of the perfect white blouse and shapewear, all rolled into one fabulous piece. Check out this review from Pure Wow here. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any better than Brooks Brothers…these lovelies came along! According to S, she is saving her rainy day pennies for a new one of these too, so hopefully we can give it a test drive soon!

Friday Find

This spring and summer, the shoe-to-be-had is the espadrille! Susan and I each have our favorite and we couldn’t resist passing them along…enjoy this week’s Friday Find!

Charla by Lauren Ralph Lauren

This one is Susan’s favorite! Perfect for a classy woman like herself.

This one is more Betsy…a little bit trendy with the peep-toe styling!

What I’m Wearing

We are in what I like to call the ‘dog days’ of fashion right now. It’s March. The weather in Ohio has been very fickle to us this season, going from near 70-dgree temps to flurries in a matter of 48 hours. There are bathing suits in the stores and my skin is the color of the mini-blinds in my office (and they are not brown). Spring clothes are running rampant in the 27 magazines I get in the mail, and I am no where near ready to buy anything yet. This is actually a great time of year to wear out the rest of your favorites from winter. I have been excited about wearing my gray suede boots because while it has been cold, there hasn’t been any snow to ruin them. I am also excited to wear boots without feeling the desperate need to cover my legs in thick, black tights. I have even been daring enough to do some footless tights this time of year. So, in my corner of the world, March is looking pretty good! How about you guys? What are you doing to get you through the rest of the season?

Top – Talbots

Skirt – J.Crew via Designer Dress Days

Boots – Talbots

As you can see in the next picture, I wore the same top and boots and switched out the skirt…talk about ‘re-working’ your wardrobe!

Skirt – DKNY via TJMaxx

The other way I am getting through this month? Getting a new hair cut! What do you guys think?

Sweater – J.Crew

Skirt – Betsey Johnson via Gerri’s Closet

Boots – J.Crew via Ebay

People Stylewatch April 2012

This weeks pic is the April edition of People Stylewatch! I continue to love this magazine month after month simple because it has SO many items of clothing and accessories to droll over. And many of them are super affordable and accessible. One of my favorite looks is on page 69…anyone can do this look! Watch for it on me later this summer. I also love the shopping advice on page 124 about how to buy a striped tunic. If you know me, you know I love my stripes and this page tells you just what to go for when it comes to your body type. Stripes are hard to pull off but with this advice you can do no wrong!. Page 126 includes 6 universally flattering pieces for anyone this spring…red pants, anyone? Finally, wrapping it up on page 224 is a spread dedicated to 1950s’ style…one of my most favorite eras. Enjoy!

Fashion Week In Review

Hi Friends! It’s S! Hard to believe that Fall Winter 2012 Fashion Week is history.  We are still figuring out how to rework this year’s pieces to get through the balance of this crazy winter and  maybe just beginning to be inspired for spring.

So, here is the short list of what we can look forward to next fall:

LEATHER Lots of it….. Pants, skirts, dresses and gloves.

CHUNKY CABLE –KNIT SWEATERS A classic must have.

MEN’S SHOES for WOMEN Oxfords or brogues especially in bright colors and metallics.

OXBLOOD A flattering, deep maroon color that we have not seen for a while.

FUR  ACCESSORIES Handbags and fur trimmed booties top the list.

Here are my top 3 picks from Fall Winter 2012 Fashion Week.   What do you think?

Carolina Herrera is always a favorite of mine.  I totally love her navy/black palette and I know there are several looks I will be adding to my inspiration notebook.  Her gowns are soooo beautiful that I’m sure we will be seeing them on the red carpet.

Donna Karan is another classic and her tailored pieces with pops of red are stunning.   Her use of suiting in new shapes makes a classic seem fresh and updated.

A new favorite of mine this season is Reem Acra. I love the clean, tailored leather looks and the black/gold herringbone pieces are some of my favorites.  Love the updated twist on a classic pattern.  The cocktail and evening dresses were not over the top, but beautifully restrained.

Hope you enjoyed my take on things!

What I’m Wearing

Sorry to be light on pics this week, but a friend is borrowing my camera! Here is a shot taken before we stepped out for a Valentines Day date night! I saw a look similar to this in the J.Crew catalog several seasons ago, and held onto the pic for inspiration. The outfit was basically cropped jeans, shoe booties, and a black jacket. Check out my version. Enjoy…

Jeans – Talbots

Jacket – DKNY via Gerri’s Closet

Gloves – Talbots

Fur Wrap – Charming Charlie at Legacy Village

Clutch – vintage from my Aunt Helen

PS…I am loving this look of the jeans and shoe booties. What do you guys think? I think it will be great for the transitional weather we will be having soon (well, this winter has been pretty transitional anyway!). The flash of ankle keeps the look airy for spring but the shoes keep the look anchored for chilly weather.

Help For The Girls

Susan recently wrote a fabulous post about buying foundations in February…read on ladies! Also check out the video from The Today Show…

February is the perfect month for Foundations! Think bras, no-line panties, shaper,  Spanx or whatever it is that you prefer to look amazing now and in all those spring looks you will be wearing soon. February is the perfect time to take care of this issue. Direct that energy and urge to shop for spring into heading to the lingerie department. Ladies, it’s called “foundations” for a reason.  It’s where your best look starts. We may have shared this before, but it’s worth repeating:  85% of women don’t wear the right size bra.  Well, we know the Shop Your Closet Girls and several of our clients are NOT in that statistic and YOU should not be either! We have had great success at Dillard’s in Summit Mall.  Manager Molly and her team are experts.  They offer a great selection of brands and styles and will work with you to get the best fit.  We have heard that other Dillard’s locations have great teams as well.  Also, the ladies at Nordstom’s in  Beachwood Mall have been recommended. So, to get you educated and motivated in about 10 minutes, check out this info and clip from the TODAY show, then head to the store.   Once you are home and wearing those new bras, we would love to hear about your experience.   Happy Shopping!
